Systematic screening for active tuberculosis: Principles and recommendations

This document presents the first comprehensive assessment by WHO of the appropriateness of screening for active TB since the recommendations made in 1974 by the Expert Committee. Screening selected high-risk groups may be a key part of the response to TB. This document helps answer: Does this strategy make sense in resource-constrained high-burden countries that have a more generalized epidemic? If so, which risk groups should be screened, and what approach should be taken?
